Separation Management
What is Separation Management?
Separation Management refers to the management process where a company simplifies an employees departure from the firm. The process is considered to be very important and is taken seriously by all firms; so much so that some firms may even arrange a dedicated department for separation management.
This process is undertaken to maintain decorum amongst the employees leaving the company as well as a gesture of thanks for serving their company.
Components of the Separation Management
The separation process starts either when an employee decides on leaving the organization / is let go / or is retiring. Once the leave notice is received by the employer, all of the employee’s financial transactions, records, and the rights to the company’s data are frozen by the HR department. Moreover, the employee’s manager is tasked with the duty of ensuring proper handover and closure of work tasks that were assigned to the employee. The manager also needs to maintain statistical data on the tasks being performed by the employee during his/her tenure. The period for notice ranges from 1–3 months depending on the level at which the employee is working.
Why is Separation Management important?
Retaining employees is a very big task nowadays for all businesses. An organization needs to check that the employees who are leaving are exited with a proper exit procedure and are heard and understood before they leave. Businesses need to gather feedback and other valuable suggestions from their exiting employees. Separation management makes the exit process easier for both employee and employer. This management process cannot be neglected by an organization as it maintains the reputation of the organization in the market and leaves a good impression on the organization’s exiting employees.
